The Kooks Shine On - Poster Analysis

In this poster, elements of design used include:

Value - The poster is compiled entirely of black, white, and greys. This gives the poster a solemn feeling and a clear sense of 'drama'.
Space - The subject of the poster is placed in the middle of the composition, leaving the outer edges of the composition a plain white. This leads the viewers eye straight to the subject of the piece.
Line/Shape - In this case, the lines contain and separate the smaller images used, and are used repeatedly in order to form the square shapes which in turn form the illusion of a face.

The principles consist of:

Balance - The picture is positioned with the subject in the center, and negative space surrounding. In both top corners, there is text, giving the look of a sort of imperfect symmetry.
Movement - The use of repeating imagery ensures no part of the subject is exactly the same, or static. The constant jumping of inage to image in such an enclosed space leads the viewers eye constantly through the image.
Pattern/Repetition - The square shape is used again and again in this piece aiding in the overall sense of unity.
Emphasis - The overall emphasis is directed to the center of the image, where the subject is located.

Potential Job Opportunities - Gaming and Design

For those with the hopes of pursuing a professional career in the industry of design or game modeling, I've come across some useful sources in order to gain experience prior to any future endeavors. Both the ModDB and the IndieDB feature entire sections devoted to recruiting those offering assistance to their various game projects. These jobs can range anywhere from programming, to level and character design, to voice acting and sound/music developers. Though not many of these jobs are paying, the experience can still prove to be quite rewarding if you enjoy having something to put on a resume and your name immortalized in a credits page at the end of a players adventure.

Similarly, another great source is Newgrounds. It's a great place to head if you're interested in getting yourself noticed in the community of original music, flash games/animation, and art. (For example, most, if not all of the backgrounds used on the website are purely fan submissions!) If you're not interested in diving into a specific feild alone, they have setions made out to those who are looking to do collaborative art, music, games, and more. Eventually, you may even be able to get yourself a partnership with Newgrounds itself.

Much like the Mod and Indie DB's, Desura also has a large selection of games made and produced by small time companies in need of a variety of helpers to get their projects afloat. You can check their jobs selection to see if there's anything that appeals to your talents. Although there are fewer openings available for jobs on Desura, the positions seem to be a bit more advanced, and therefore may be right for a transition into the professional spotlight further down the line.
